This strand provides support for teachers and advisers who are guiding students through the decision-making process ahead of their university application.

Resources in this strand suggest ways of approaching this process, the information sources available and how to critically analyse them.

It gives specific information about Russell Group universities in particular, to encourage a greater understanding of the benefits they offer to students with the talent, potential and ability to attend.

Discover Uni has replaced the Unistats website and enables users to compare UK higher education course data. It includes key information from official sources, including details of student satisfaction scores and specific information on graduate jobs and salaries.

Finding Work Experience in the NHS: a guide for teachers and advisers

Health Education England has produced a toolkit for schools, colleges and further education institutions as part of its widening participation programme. This explains how the NHS works, provides information and practical tips for setting up a placement and gives examples of good practice.

Guardian University Guide

The Guardian publishes complete university league tables for every subject, with information on how to use the tables.

Informed Choices: subject choices at school and college

Informed Choices is produced by the Russell Group. Students can choose a degree subject they are interested in to see suggestions for suitable A level subject choices. Alternatively, they may experiment with different subject choice combinations to see which degree choices this would open up to them.

National Careers Service

The National Careers Service is provided by the UK Government. Their website includes a large collection of job profiles and in each case users can see which qualifications are necessary for particular roles. The service can also be used by those who are looking to speak with a careers adviser.

Open Days

UCAS has an events page where students can search for upcoming open days at different universities.

Prospects

Prospects offers useful information on career pathways, including job profiles detailing typical salaries and the qualifications and skills required by role type. There is a section on careers relevant to different degrees and a career planner and quiz.
